In 1984, when Jonezy was a year old, I was married to his father. He decided he was going to beat me
up. After beating me for an hour he finally stopped. I started packing my things and I told him, “I was
leaving him and taking Jonezy.” He held a knife to my throat and said “You’re not going anywhere
with my son.” I he calmed down enough that he let me go to the store. On my way, I stopped and
called the police. They said, “Sorry, but there is nothing we can do because you are married”. I called
my Dad and he said, “Call travelers’ aid” and I did. They said “They would help me if I could get to
their office in San Diego”. That night around 4 pm. he was called into work. I truly believe God was
watching over us that night because that was my only chance to escape.

I never looked back and have never seen him again. I divorce him. I have been a Christian for 7 years
and thank God every day for saving our lives.
